NEW YORK – May 20, 2020 /3BL Media/ – The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) announced today that the WELL AP (accredited professional) exam is now available online. The WELL AP credential denotes expertise in the WELL Building Standard (WELL) and a commitment to advancing human health and wellness in buildings and communities around the world. Already, nearly 6,000 WELL APs across 87 countries have successfully earned the credential by passing the rigorous exam, with nearly 6,000 more registered to take the exam.
Now candidates have the option of taking the exam from the comfort of their homes through a secure remote assessment platform provided by Prometric, a leading provider of technology-enabled testing and assessment solutions or taking the exam at one of Prometric’s global testing sites.
“Now more than ever, the WELL AP community is uniquely positioned to lead a global effort to support the health and well-being of people everywhere,” said Rick Fedrizzi, IWBI chairman and CEO. “For those looking to differentiate themselves in the job market, prepare for the return to work or prioritize health across their organization, the WELL AP credential is designed to help provide the skills and knowledge the industry needs as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.”
WELL AP accreditation is overseen by third-party Green Business Certification Inc., which uses Prometric to administer WELL AP exams. As Prometric has been impacted by COVID-19, many of its global testing centers have been temporarily closed. Shifting to remote proctoring of the WELL AP exam, in addition to in-person testing centers where available, will ensure that the exam remains accessible during this time, and makes an online solution available for the long-term as well.
“There’s never been a better time for education,” said IWBI President Rachel Gutter. “This online testing option augments our ongoing efforts to make the WELL AP accessible to people around the world, regardless of region, demographic or disability. It’s another way we are making sure all the benefits of WELL – including access to education and resources – are available to everyone, everywhere.”
Today’s announcement builds on IWBI’s existing efforts to address COVID-19 by educating and supporting its community, thereby helping to build the capacity the market needs as companies consider how to reopen their workplaces while protecting the health and safety of employees. IWBI has reduced the registration fees for the WELL AP exam by over 50 percent through the end of 2020, and is hosting a free five-part virtual WELL AP exam training course and a series of webcasts for those interested in bringing a focus on health to their career. In addition, 20% of all WELL AP exam registration fees will go to first responders around the globe.
IWBI also launched the Task Force on COVID-19: Prevention and Preparedness, Resilience and Recovery to focus on this immediate challenge and collect and apply the expertise and insight of hundreds of leaders from their respective fields. The Task Force will help inform a set of signature deliverables and resources, including a set of Guidelines on Prevention and Preparedness, Resilience and Recovery. It will also assess ways in which WELL itself can be further strengthened so the system, which touches more than a half-billion square feet of space across 61 countries, can incorporate additional strategies to advance the role of buildings as part of the public health toolkit.
