DESCRIPTION:

“Diversity, equity, and inclusion continues to be a topic of critical importance, especially in these times of heightened racism and social injustice. The good news is that corporate America is paying closer attention to its D&I practices.”

-Deborah Munster, vice president, Diversity Best Practices

How can workplaces create a more inclusive environment for women, racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other underrepresented groups? What are the best practices for recruiting, retaining, and advancing a more diverse workforce?

Diversity Best Practices (DBP), a division of Working Mother Media, documents trends and analyzes disparities to evaluate the diversity and inclusion practices of leading U.S employers. Booz Allen is one of 98 organizations that earned a spot on this year’s index, which also includes companies such as Bank of America, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, AT&T and Intel.

DBP evaluates companies on three criteria: company culture; best practices for recruitment, retention, and advancement; and transparency and demographics.

Women in power earn strong scoring

Among companies named to the DBP Inclusion Index this year, Booz Allen received high marks for its number of women in executive leadership positions:

  • The firm’s 12-member Board of Directors is 42 percent female—significantly greater than the average of 30.4 percent among all DBP participants.
  • Women comprise 67 percent of Booz Allen’s nine-member leadership team.
  • Booz Allen has been recognized by Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies list for nearly two decades and was recently named by Forbes to its 2020 Best Employers for Women index.

Approaching diversity and inclusion from all angles

The DBP Index designation is one of several recognitions Booz Allen has received this summer from Diversity Best Practices. In June, DBP honored Booz Allen with two Above and Beyond Awards, which recognize an employee or business resource groups for their efforts to drive diversity, equity, and inclusion:

In July, Booz Allen also celebrated its sixth year with a 100% score on the Disability Equality Index (DEI). A nationwide benchmarking tool by Disability:IN and the American Association for People with Disabilities, the DEI measures key performance indicators including culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices like education and benefits, community engagement, and supplier diversity.
