Ohio Major-Metro Construction Activity Increased 9.2% in Year-Over-Year Analysis, BidClerk Data Finds

For major-metro regions in Ohio, including Akron, OH; Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN; Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH; Columbus, OH; Dayton, OH; Toledo, OH; and Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA, the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI™) 3rd quarter 2013 report showed positive results for construction projects that were actively bidding. Compared to one year ago, overall construction activity increased 9.2%. This compares to a (-12.3%) decrease reported by the BCI in the 3rd quarter of 2012. Private projects that were actively bidding increased just 0.7%. Public projects increased 12.4%.

The total value of all major-metro Ohio projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $1.9 billion compared to a value of $2.4 billion reported in 2nd quarter of 2013, reflecting seasonal trends.

In BCI’s year-over-year analysis, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding in the Cleveland region increased 16.9% compared to a decrease of (-5%) reported in the 3rd quarter of 2012. The total value of all Cleveland construction projects reported on by BidClerk for the 3rd quarter 2013 was $500 million compared to $300 million report for the 2nd quarter of 2013, reflecting seasonal trends.

In a year-over-year analysis for the Cincinnati region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding decreased (-3.6%) compared to a decrease of (-17.8%) that BCI reported for the 3rd quarter of 2012. The total value of all Cincinnati construction projects reported on by BidClerk for the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $450 million compared to $750 million reported for the 2nd quarter of 2013, reflecting seasonal trends.

In a year-over-year analysis for the Columbus region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding climbed 11.7%. The total value of all Columbus construction projects reported on by BidClerk for the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $450 million compared to $700 million reported for the 2nd quarter of 2013, reflecting seasonal trends.
